The Mommy MD Guides Report on New Breastfeeding Policy
With the passing of the health care reform reconciliation bill, the provision of reasonable break time and a place to express breast milk in the workplace is now federal law!

HELLERTOWN, PA, April 16, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A new mom desperately wants to breastfeed her baby. But she has to return to work and there are no breaks permitted for breastfeeding. (Smoking, yes, but breastfeeding, no). Even if the mom had breaks, she doesn't have a private, comfortable place at work to breastfeed in. And so she sadly stops breastfeeding long before she had hoped to.

But this no longer has to be the case! With the passing of the health care reform reconciliation bill, the provision of reasonable break time and a place to express breast milk in the workplace is now federal law.

Dozens of scientific studies have established the proven benefits of breastfeeding. In infants, breastfeeding has been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS as well as the future risk of developing type 1 diabetes, obesity, childhood leukemia, allergies, and respiratory conditions such as asthma.

Breastfeeding is good for moms, too. It's been shown to reduce the risk of post-partum bleeding and to promote weight loss in new moms. Breastfeeding can reduce the future risk of developing osteoporosis and even certain types of cancer. In today's economy, breastfeeding can serve a very practical function, as it is significantly cheaper than buying expensive formula. For mother and child, breastfeeding is an excellent stress-reliever and a wonderful bonding experience.

As doctors who are also mothers, the Mommy MD Guides are very supportive of women who choose to breastfeed and very pleased that this new law will make it easier to do so.
