Australians' Favorite Singer Is Still Going After Over 30 Years
Goth singer and icon Nick Cave, who was once an embarrassment to his homeland of Australia, is now representing its most famous landmark, The Sydney Opera House.
DOYLESTOWN, PA, September 28, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Underground Goth legend Nick Cave's star is once again on the rise after a big year.
Last month his side project band, Grinderman, won the European Mojo award for best video of the year, chosen online by fans. Their video for "Heathen Child" took away top honors and was directed by movie maker John Hillcoat, who is famous for last year's sleeper hit, The Road.
Now, once again, Australians' favorite black sheep has made his homeland proud. In what has taken over ten months to create, Australia's Sydney Opera House has used Nick Cave's hit song "The Ship Song" to advertise the variety of singers, actors and musicians that have performed throughout the last decade at the Opera House. Everyone from folk singer Martha Wainwright to Neil Finn, lead singer of '80's group Crowded House, to the Australian Ballet Company to (of course) the Opera singers of Australia took part in the video montage. However, while Australia has gone to great lengths to create this masterful video/commercial directed by award winner Paul Goldman, Mr. Cave is conspicuously absent from any actual footage in the final cut. When questioned about such an obvious oversight, The Arctic Monkeys, who are the creators of the event, mentioned that Nick's schedule didn't match up with theirs; however, they were honored that he said yes to the use of his ballad.
Their statement is probably true, since Grinderman has been on a yearlong world tour, headlining several European festivals as well as signing on to the Australian Home Baked Festival, which will be held later this year. In addition to all the touring, Nick Cave is trying to record another LP with his long standing band of thirty years, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
As if all this isn't enough to keep the father of four busy, he has written his fourth screenplay, which is currently shooting in the deep southern area of the United States, stars the Australian actors Guy Pearce and Noah Taylor, and is being directed by Hillcoat.
It appears that this once drug laden beast of a man has yet to slow down, even in his 50's. His vinyl records are constantly increasing in value and the number of mp3 hits he has had keeps rising. When asked what is up next for him, he said that his last novel, The Death Of Bunny Monroe, is in the works for becoming his next movie project, and that he will be touring with his band mates after their next album is complete.
Father, husband, musician, writer, producer, poet, and icon, Nick Cave can do it all without the use of drugs anymore. Now, life, music, and love keep this legend fueled.
